Match Review || PBKS Vs KKR
Two teams languishing at the rock-bottom of the point table, desperate for a win were battling down. It was Punjab Kings taking on Kolkata Knight Riders at Narendra Modi Stadium,Ahmedabad. In my observations, these two teams this year finding unexpectedly innovative ways of loosing matches. This match was no different,Knights almost found a way to loose this match too. But, thanks to the captain's knock, that took the team over the line.
PUNJAB KINGS - INNINGS
Kings won the toss & choose to field, without a second thought. Initially, skipper K.L.Rahul(19) & Mayank Agarwal(31) looked really good, played some shots but soon KKR bowlers came right back into the game & gets the prize wicket of Rahul. What followed after, was an absolutely disappointing show by Kings. Wickets kept tumbling, no partnerships & Kings somehow survived those 20 overs & were limited to 123. It was courtesy of cameo from Chris Jordan(30).
The highlight of the innings was a"Golden Duck" for Chris Gayle(0) off Shivam Mavi. This team yet again exposed the weakness of solely relying on Rahul,Gayle & Mayank. If these three doesn't click, the entire team falls like deck of cards. If this is a trend & that's how this team performs, then they surely doesn't deserve to be in the top half of the league. It feels,Rahul is feeling the heat of captaincy & that burden is affecting K.L.Rahul - "The Batsman". Kolkata Knight Riders on top !!
KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS - INNINGS
Knights were up for another batting collapse & had a shocking start to the chase. As if, they're competing with Kings for poor performance with the bat. Knights lost their openers & total three wickets, inside power-play. Andre Russell's run-out added insult to injury. Thankfully, Rahul Tripathi(41) & unbeaten captain's knock of Eoin Morgan(47*) ensured Knight's victory & took the team over the line, without much drama. Kudos to Eoin Morgan for completing 7000 runs in T20 format.Kolkata Knight Riders won the match by 05 wickets.
Well, as we say - "Victory is Victory" but this one, surely was not satisfying one for Knights. While chasing only 123,if you loose half the side & took almost 17 overs, then it raise lot of questions. Importantly, those two crucial points added to the tally of KKR.
As far as Kings are concerned, the think tank had a lot of work to do because their batting looks good, only when their three marquee players click & team has the most fragile, weak bowling attack of the league.Unfortunately, with such dynamics i don't see this team going far in the league.
