It felt like, Mumbai Indians were ready to settle their account, but Kings proved to be the nemesis for Mumbai Indians, once again. On a super challenging Chennai turf, in a low scoring intense game of cricket, Kings won the battle by 09 wickets.
MUMBAI INDIANS - INNINGS
Defending Champions haven't had a great start to IPL2021. On a challenging, two-paced batting strip, which doesn't suit to the style of MI has offered many challenges & this team didn't had a good time, especially with the bat. On these tricky pitches, toss becomes crucial in the context of the game & Punjab Kings won the toss & asked Mumbai Indians to bat.
MI learned few tough lessons from the past matches & knew that the power-play is going to be super-crucial. It was expected, Quinton De Kock will take a role of an aggressor & hitman will take some time.Quinton De Kock's(3) poor run with the bat continued & it was expected - "Surya Kumar Yadav - (SKY)" will up the anti. But, everyone's shocked when Ishaan Kishan(6) came ahead of the SKY & this is where MI missed a trick. What's going on in the think tank of Mumbai Indians ? The player who is in form, striking ball beautifully on such challenging pitch, is sitting in dugout & a batsman who is out of form, coming ahead. This move of the team, put extra pressure on Ishaan & he was struggling like anything - in the process, consumed lot many deliveries & eventually got out.
Surya played a good knock of 33 runs & formed a crucial partnership with skipper Rohit Sharma(63). Hitman played a sensible & a captain's innings with focus, application & smartness. But, rest of others couldn't hold their impulsiveness, played some immature shots & MI were limited again to a mediocre score of 131 - their lowest of IPL2021.
MI couldn't force the pace in the death overs, kept loosing wickets & this score was just not enough- nothing for bowlers to defend. But still, MI bowlers bowled beautifully & took the game till 18th over. MI's bowling has been premium in this season, but it's the batting which let them down - even in this match. Chennai, not a happy hunting ground for Mumbai Indians.
PUNJAB KINGS - INNINGS
Kings had a watchful start to the chase. It's not a huge target but surely a tricky one. Skipper K.L.Rahul played watchfully, while Mayank Agarwal took his chances. MI bowlers needs to be appreciated to keep the lines pretty tight. Mayank kept hitting one boundary every over & that took all the pressure off. MI spinners bowled beautifully & Kings played their overs smartly, by not taking too many chances. Rahul Chahar picked the only wicket of Mayank Agarwal for MI & then came "The Universe Boss" - Chris Gayle(43*). Initially "The Boss" played watchfully, but when Gayle storm hits any ground, then things gets over quite quickly. In the meanwhile, skipper Rahul(60*) also completed his another half-century & his dream run against Mumbai Indians continues. Punjab Kings easily won this match by 09 wickets in the 18th over only.
This was a huge win for Punjab Kings & this may very well prove crucial in the closing stages of the game. Kings are proving to be the nemesis for Mumbai Indians & defending champions need to find a way out to get over them.
